Let’s be honest: bathrooms are a nightmare for electronics. You’ve got thick steam, random splashes of water, and temperatures that swing from freezing to scorching in a matter of minutes. If the seals on an infrared lamp aren’t perfect, the thing is going to short out. And nobody wants to deal with a dead heater—or worse, an electrical spark—coming from their ceiling. That’s why we put every batch through damp-heat aging tests. Basically, we try to break them in the lab so they don’t break in your home. The problem with humidity Here’s the thing about water vapor: it finds a way. It creeps into the tiniest gaps in the housing or the connector seals. Once that moisture hits the high-voltage parts, you get arcing. It’s a mess. We shove our lamps into climate chambers with crushing humidity and sustained heat. It’s a brutal environment. We do this to find the weak spots in the quartz-to-metal seals and the insulation before the product ever leaves our sight. The stress of the “Quick Heat” It’s not just the wetness. It’s the shock. Imagine a lamp jumping from 20°C to 500°C in a few seconds while surrounded by 90% humidity. That puts a massive amount of stress on the materials. We keep a close eye on the contact points for any sign of rust or oxidation. We also check the reflectors. If the coating starts peeling or the filament shifts because the seal was sloppy, the heat doesn’t hit you the way it should. The tricky balancing act You might think, “Just seal it airtight and call it a day.” But it’s not that simple. If we seal the lamp too tightly, the quartz tube has nowhere to go when it expands from the heat. The result? The glass cracks. It’s a bit of a dance. We tune the tolerances so the unit can “breathe” just enough to avoid cracking, but not enough to let the steam in. We don’t like guessing when it comes to how long a lamp will last. We’d rather simulate the absolute worst-case bathroom scenario and prove the hardware can take a beating. That way, when you turn it on, it just works.
