
Why we stopped building “permanent” mirror heaters
Let’s be honest: bathrooms are brutal on electronics. Between the thick steam and the constant heating and cooling, things eventually break. It’s just physics. For a facility manager, the real nightmare isn’t the heater failing—it’s the fix. Usually, when a heating element burns out, it’s buried deep inside the mirror assembly. To fix one tiny tube, you have to rip out the whole mirror. It’s a mess, it’s expensive, and it takes forever. We decided there had to be a better way. The “Swap-and-Go” Approach Instead of one giant, permanent unit, we broke the infrared heaters down into smaller, separate modules. Think of it like Lego. If one piece stops working, you don’t throw away the whole set. You just pull out the dead module and pop in a new one. No need to call in a full installation crew. No need to tear down the frame. A technician can walk in and have the mirror clear again in a few minutes rather than a few hours. It’s just… easier. The Trade-offs (Because nothing is perfect) Now, here is the catch. Using modules means more connectors. And in a steamy bathroom, connectors can be a weak point if they aren’t done right. To stop them from rusting or oxidizing, we use high-temperature terminals. They hold up. Also, these aren’t as thin as those custom film heaters. You lose a few millimeters of space behind the glass. But in my book, that’s a fair trade. I’d rather lose a tiny bit of space now than have to break a mirror later just to replace a wire. Keeping it Running Look, no heating element lasts forever. Wires get tired. They expand, they contract, and eventually, they snap. But with a modular setup, you aren’t playing a guessing game. You test the module, swap the part, and you’re back in business. It’s just a practical way to handle the long haul.
