
How to actually pick the right heat for your bathroom
Nobody likes stepping onto a freezing cold floor first thing in the morning. But here’s the thing: getting your bathroom warm isn’t about just cranking up the power. It’s about picking the right wattage for the size of your room. We use shortwave infrared lamps because they don’t waste time heating up the air. Instead, they go straight for you and the things around you. It’s instant. No waiting around for a convection heater to finally kick in. Picking your power You’ve got to look at your ceiling height and the total floor space. If you’ve got a tiny powder room—anything under 4m²—a single 400W to 600W lamp usually does the trick to kill that morning chill. For medium bathrooms (between 4m² and 8m²), I’d suggest a dual-lamp setup, something around 1000W to 1200W. If you’re dealing with a massive master bath, you’re looking at 1500W or more. But be careful. If you put too much power in a tiny space, you’ll just burn out your lamps faster and waste money. On the flip side, if you go too low, you won’t feel a thing because the heat disappears before it even hits the floor. The nitty-gritty stuff Most of our units use quartz glass tubes with a halogen fill. Why? Because they heat up fast. We also use R7s connectors, which is just a fancy way of saying you can swap out a dead tube in seconds without needing a degree in engineering. There is a catch, though. High wattage means intense heat in one spot. If you shove a 1200W unit into a tiny stall, the housing can get hot enough to warp cheap plastic fixtures. Just make sure your vents and brackets can actually handle the heat. Getting the most bang for your buck To make the system work its best, mount the lamps at the highest point of your ceiling. This lets the infrared waves spread out and cover more ground. And a pro tip: wire it up to a timer or a motion sensor. That way, the heat is there when you need it, but it isn’t running all day while the room is empty. Your energy bill will thank you.
