Putting infrared lamps in a bathroom isn’t as simple as just slapping a waterproof cover on them. You’re mixing high voltage with constant steam and splashes. If your insulation isn’t spot on, you’re looking at ground faults or a system that just burns itself out. Not a great way to start your morning. Picking parts that actually last Standard connectors? Forget it. They’ll fail. You need IP-rated housings and gaskets that can handle the heat without melting or cracking. For the wiring, we go with silicone or PTFE insulation. These materials don’t get brittle or gross when they’re blasted with steam and heat cycles day after day. I also recommend shortwave infrared. It heats up fast. And that’s a big deal because it sheds surface condensation quickly. If a lamp stays damp for too long and then suddenly kicks on, the thermal shock can actually crack the element. The trade-offs you should know about You can’t hide the safety gear. To make sure the electrical isolation is 100% solid, you’ve got to fit in a dedicated leakage current protector. It takes up some space, but it’s non-negotiable. Plus, there’s a little catch with the waterproofing. Those thick protective layers can block some of the radiant heat from reaching you. You might find you need to bump up the wattage a bit to get that same “toasty” feeling. Oh, and make sure the chassis is grounded. It’s the simplest way to ensure any stray current has a safe path to the earth instead of through you.
