
How we actually keep water out of industrial infrared heaters
Water and infrared heaters don’t get along. Period. If you’re running a shop with high humidity or a zone that gets hosed down daily, you know the drill: moisture creeps in, something shorts out, and your filaments burn out way before they should. It’s frustrating, it’s expensive, and it kills your uptime. That’s why we focused on an IP65 rating. Basically, we wanted to make sure the electrical junctions and the housing were locked down tight.
Dealing with splashes and that annoying fog
When we say IP65, we mean the unit is dust-tight and can take a low-pressure water jet from any direction without flinching. We didn’t just slap some tape on it; we used high-temperature silicone gaskets and beefed up the seals where the cables enter. It keeps the splashes away from the live terminals. Simple. But fogging? That’s a different story. Here’s the thing: when a heater cycles on and off in a damp room, condensation builds up on the quartz tube. If that water just sits there, the heat hits it and creates a “thermal shock.” That’s a fancy way of saying the glass cracks. To fix this, we tweaked the housing shape so moisture actually drains away from the element. It keeps the tube dry, which keeps it from breaking.
The catch: Heat vs. Sealing
There is a trade-off here. When you seal a unit this tightly to keep water out, the internal electronics can’t really “breathe.” Heat builds up inside the chassis. Because of that, you can’t just bury these units in a tight box. You need to make sure there’s some airflow around the outside, or use a mounting bracket that helps pull heat away. If you cram them into a space with zero ventilation, you’re going to melt your wiring insulation. Just a heads-up.
Where this actually matters
These heaters are for the places where the floor is always wet. Food processing plants, chemical labs—the gritty stuff. By keeping the internals dry, we’ve managed to stretch out the time between service calls. No more constant “burn out” cycles or tripping your breakers every time someone cleans the floor. You just drop them in, and they handle the beating.
